DEMENTIA CARE ACCESS PROGRAM LAUNCHES AT HOUSTON METHODIST WILLOWBROOK

Early detection is one of the most effective tools available in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and speeding diagnosis can have a profound impact on doctors’ abilities to slow the progression of symptoms. To address a critical need for greater access to early dementia care, Houston Methodist has developed a new multidisciplinary memory clinic model. A pilot program that launched this year at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital — thanks to seed funding from Laura and Winston Talbert — has already reduced initial-consultation wait times for new dementia patients from 12 to 18 months to just seven weeks.
This remarkable success is primed to be replicated at more Houston Methodist network hospitals. To that end, the Talberts have generously offered to match up to $500,000 in donations to the Neurodegenerative Innovation and Access Fund.

A FOUNDATION FOR DISTINCTION IN NURSING

For more than 35 years, The Brown Foundation has partnered with Houston Methodist to celebrate the extraordinary nurses whose compassion, clinical expertise, leadership and innovation define excellence in patient care. Through the prestigious Brown Foundation Outstanding Nurse Awards, the foundation has helped honor caregivers who inspire colleagues, elevate the profession and exemplify the very best of nursing.
This year, The Brown Foundation strengthened that legacy with a significant new commitment, expanding the awards program across all Houston Methodist network hospitals while furthering support for professional development, educational advancement and nurse recognition. Thanks to its latest investment, The Brown Foundation continues to help recruit, retain and encourage exceptional nurses — reinforcing a shared belief that outstanding nursing is essential to outstanding healthcare.

TRIO OF GIFTS ADVANCES HEART HEALTH FOR SOUTH ASIAN COMMUNITIES

Recent gifts from Elizabeth Le and Dr. Mihir Gupta, Kusum and K. Cody Patel, and Sharda and Dharam P. Arya are advancing evidence-based, culturally responsive cardiovascular disease prevention at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. Through their support of the Houston–South Asians Engaged in Heart-Health Awareness and Transformation initiative, physician-scientists seek to better understand the population’s elevated risk of early-onset heart disease and translate those findings into more effective care.
Combining data science, clinical expertise and community engagement, this initiative capitalizes on Houston’s large and fast-growing South Asian population to generate insights that inform early detection and personalized prevention strategies. With support from these families, Houston Methodist is expanding the reach of this work and accelerating discoveries that could improve heart health for South Asian communities worldwide.

QUINN ESTABLISHES A LEGACY OF THE HEART AND MIND

A longtime friend to Houston Methodist, Douglas R. Quinn has chosen to reaffirm his philanthropic focus on cardiovascular and neurosurgical excellence through an estate gift. The bequest will be divided equally between the Leading Hearts Fund in the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center and the Neurosurgery General Fund in the Department of Neurosurgery.
This further support will benefit the work of Dr. Miguel A. Quiñones, the Winters Family Distinguished Centennial Chair in Cardiovascular Education, and Dr. Gavin W. Britz, the Candy and Tom Knudson Distinguished Centennial Chair in Neurosurgery and director of the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute. The commitment to the future of Houston Methodist is a testament to Quinn’s history as a staunch advocate for medical research and education.
