A Message from our president and CEO

There’s a common theme in philanthropy known as the multiplier effect. It refers to how an initial philanthropic gift can spur a chain reaction — creating ripples of long-term change, attracting more funding or inspiring broader support. This ultimately yields an impact greater than the original gift alone could achieve.
In this issue of Leading, we showcase the multiplier effect by highlighting a number of special gifts, beginning with a transformational commitment from The Duncan Fund to Houston Methodist’s largest department. The Houston Methodist Charles W. Duncan Jr. Department of Medicine, home to 14 diverse clinical programs, promises to usher in an era of precision medicine and proactive health. It’s a vision shared by the Duncan family and department chair Dr. Eleftherios Mylonakis — and an investment that will be amplified through generations of medical training and leadership, initiative building, and capacity expansion. Please see our Spotlight story for more details.
Sometimes, an initial gift is multiplied by catalyzing additional funding, as in our stories about collective giving in support of rheumatology and stroke recovery care. In other cases, matching gifts galvanize and expand the reach of already generous giving.
Finally, a focus on relationships may be the healthiest aspect of philanthropic growth. Our Society for Leading Medicine, the face of annual giving at Houston Methodist since 2013, is evolving in 2026 to pair with a new donor recognition program that honors lifetime giving. With opportunities to connect and network with peers, both programs will bring together like-minded supporters dedicated to future-forward health care. I hope you’ll read more and become involved if you aren’t already. We would be privileged to recognize your meaningful dedication.
As we look toward a new year, we at the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation thank each of our philanthropic friends for your support and the pivotal work it empowers. We wish you and your family abundant joy, peace and merriment in the days ahead.
With appreciation,
Flynn A. Andrizzi, PhD
