In his 11 years at the helm, Johnson guided the Foundation board through the successful conclusion of our second-ever fundraising campaign. The Leading Medicine to the Power of M — Campaign for Our Second Century surpassed its $500 million goal in 2020, securing $517.9 million to support endowed positions, translational research and exceptional patient care. One of the highlights of the campaign was the creation of the Ann Kimball & John W. Johnson Center for Cellular Therapeutics, which Johnson and his wife, Ann, established with a transformational gift in 2019.

Johnson was honored at the annual Foundation Board Dinner on Jan. 13, 2026, where he was presented with a captain’s chair, recognizing his outstanding tenure as board chair. We are thankful that his service to Houston Methodist continues — Johnson will serve as immediate past chair of the Foundation board through 2027.
